Bird in the Golden Cage
I’m building up my diamond walls
wandering the golden halls
dancing in the false parade
of the bird in the golden cage
silver bonds and golden chains
the glamor’s gone but the scars remain
as i’m thrust out on the stage
like the bird in the golden cage
free to sing, but not to fly
living out a tortured lie
festering in hopeles rage
like the bird in the golden cage
i’ve learned that joy comes not from wealth
it comes from friends, God, and good health
but nonetheless, i waste away
like the bird in the golden cage
hope is dwindling, slowly fading
and i’m reduced to serenading
singing away my numbered days
as a bird in a golden cage
the sequens slowly fade to gray
shine them up to last the day, but
beauty only fades with age
